Cebu Green Tourism Forum

Cebu celebrated the tourism month with the theme “Greening the Tourism Sector of Cebu”

To celebrate the tourism month, DOT and DTI collaborated with other national government agencies, Cebu Provincial LGU and Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and brought together key stakeholders of the tourism sector in the province. The two-day event on 26-27 September 2013 at the Harold’s Hotel in Cebu City, Philippines targeted two different audiences: the local government units (LGUs) on Day 1 and enterprises in the tourism sector on Day 2. Day 1 focused on the role and importance of LGUs in providing an enabling environment for tourism businesses to grow as stipulated in the 1991 Local Government Code of the Philippines and the Tourism Act of 2009. The leading tourism destination in the country, Puerto Princesa City shared how the LGU aligned its resources to achieve its vision, among other success factors, that led to the success of Palawan as a major sustainable tourist destination. Day 2 focused on enhancing competitiveness of businesses by adopting environment friendly and climate smart strategies. Providers of green services, green technologies and green financing shared how the enterprises, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can implement the changes necessary to go green. Business membership organizations (BMOs) also discussed the greening programs and services they are offering to enterprises in the tourism sector.

In both days, there was an exhibit of green services, green technologies and green products, including organically and naturally grown fruits and vegetables.
